A word from leavinglaw
The Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office (RCPO) is an independent government department that prosecutes criminal cases for HM Revenue and Customs and the Serious and Organised Crime Agency: "the specialist Government prosecutor" as they call themselves. I.e. they have jurisdiction over matters such as drug, alcohol and tobacco smuggling, illegal arms trafficking, sanctions violations, tax fraud, money laundering and export control. 'Legal Officers' will be qualified solicitors or barristers who review, advise on, case manage and prosecute cases, as part of a team. Obviously experience in criminal paractice is 'desirable', although specialist experience will also be of interest. RCPO employs over 100 lawyers. Vacancies are advertised on their website, through Jobcentre Plus, in national and local newspapers and websites, and on the Civil Service Recruitment Gateway under the umbrella of the central Government Legal Service scheme.
